Last month I had the pleasure of working with an old friend Bernadette Pollard of Dettesnap's Photography. She is an amazing photographer and so much fun to work with.  She has an incredible gift of capturing the best shots some organically on the fly, while others meticulously dressed down to the smallest detail. But you would never know the difference between the two because she has the ability to keep it fresh, genuine and real.

On this rocker styled wedding shoot I not only got to be the stylist but was asked to model as a bridesmaid. I love modeling, really I have so much fun doing it. Even though I'm a shy 5' 4", I'm not one to let that stop me. For this shoot I worked along side two very tall and incredibly beautiful runway models.   This may have posed awkwardness with the contrasting height difference. But Bernadette made it work and even used the difference in her shots. It actually makes the shoot more convincing of a real wedding. Let's get real, bridesmaids are most likely not going to be the same height.

Over the last few months I've had the opportunity to work exclusively in the make-up department at the Nordstroms, Mall of America.  During this time I have tried many new and old skin care products. Now this could have been very dangerous for me as I am a product junkie, a sucker for deals & results they promise to give.  I also use a cocktail of products in my daily beauty regimen and too many isn't an issue. After trying and comparing dozens of  products I have settled on my few favorites in my daily routine.  I am absolutely in love with the results that I'm seeing in my skin. The craziest part about it...I'm not using a moisturizer! I find it unusual only because I been using a moisturizer since the beginning of time. I have very dry skin and desperately used creams not just in the morning and night but throughout the day to relieve my tightness .  It took some time to get used to with about a week of slight tightness but eventually it went away. Who knows, I may revert back to moisturizers as soon as winter approaches but for the time being I'm happy without them.

I'm sure you are all just itching to find out what I have been using so here goes...

Picture
I use the Arcona basic five in the morning and night to cleanse, tone, exfoliate, and hydrate my skin.  Arcona believes heaving moisturizers are unable to penetrate the skin, instead weighing it down causing sagginess, enlarged pores, & blackheads. Now you don't use all five products morning and night just a couple at a time.  They have a weekly chart to use until you get used to the routine.  When I'm crunched for time I use there awesomely convenient Triad pads. These pads do so much they not only remove your make-up but they cleanse, tone, and hydrate the skin.  On top of that they leave your skin protected with an abundant amount of antioxidants. They are a must have for travel!!!

In conjunction to that I use three booster products that cannot live without. The first one is Cliniques' Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector.  After having a baby I experienced the very common pregnancy mask just below the eye area.  With just 6 weeks of using the serum morning and night it faded away. Since I achieved my desired results I discontinued using it. But after having the baby my hormones pushed several brown freckle like spots to the surface.  Another common side affect from the fluctuating pregnancy hormones.  I am back on it and the spots are (thank god) fading away.  Even when the spots completely disappear I plan to continue using it to prevent any and all future spots.
Next I layer Dr. dennis Gross's Active Vitamin D Serum Oil.  This product gives you immediate results in the radiance of your skin. It also gives you your daily dose of Vitamin D without having to bake in the sun and adding more damage to your skin. It helps with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, heals the past environmental damage, while leaving your skin with a luminous glow.

Before putting on the Vitamin D Serum I add Philosophy's Turbo Booster C Powder in the A.M. only. Vitamin C has many benefits to the skin but I use it for the boost in antioxidants that fight premature aging. Vitamin C is key to the production of collagen that gives the skin its firmness and strength. It is also slows the rate of free radical damage that causes dryness, lines & wrinkles.  I like it best in powder form because the potency deteriorates over time in liquid. So by keeping in dry it retains 99.8% of it's potency.

I am absolutely in love with this years summer fashion trends. They hit the bulls eye when it comes to my sense of style. The best of the 70's and 80's are back with vengeance reincarnated for the new and old generations supped up with an anything goes attitude. My top favorites are the colored skinny jeans, floral print & ombre cut offs, bohemian maxi dresses, oversized tee shirts, and on top of that they've added super fun sassy embellishments. Below are just a few examples of those trends that I can't wait  summer!

With my new love of Pinterest I have discovered many of the latest trends in todays fashion. One of my favorite categories is hair and the fun new looks that are gravitating to the public. Well ladies it happens to be COLOR and I am In love with it! i for one am not afraid of changing my hair color because it is only temporary. It's my alternative way of getting a tattoo. And what has caught my eye are all of the bright rainbow colors adding a fun fresh look to anyone's hair, at any length.
So...for my birthday [which I try my best to experiment with] I decided to spice it up a bit by adding a touch of pink to my hair. I purchased a demi permanent hair color in hot pink from Sally's Beauty Supply.  For a mere 10 bucks N'Rage Bubble Gum Pink hair dye was added to the ends of my hair (no rinse). The bottle says that the color may last from two weeks to a month with rinsing, depending on how porous your hair is. Well mine faded with only one wash to a barely visible champagne blonde. I adore the temporary look that I achieved and hope the same result with their other colors. Soon I will be head back to Sally's with N'Rage's alternative shades and show you my results.  Until then here is my satisfied look of the bubble pink dye.

Some of you may have discovered you are spending less time of facebook to peruse the new trending site Pinterest. I can't seem to get enough of it.  I've been pining photos of my favorite fashion trends, discovering new Do It Yourself ideas, finding tasty recipes, seeing latest hair styles, new workouts, and the list goes on.  I am attempting these new inspirations and will share with you my results. I'm excited to share with you all that I will be posting my DIY wedding ideas that we are doing on a very small budget.  My Fiance and I are now just starting to plan our fall wedding at the Basilica of St. Mary's in Minneapolis.  If you are familiar with the historical cathedral you know the challenge we face attempting to create this intimate wedding.  Although I am not alone on this challenging venture, I have a few brilliantly creative friends that are willing to help me create the wedding of my dreams.  I plan on either making or recycling the wedding necessities to create my unique but classy wedding and reception. Some of these items include both of my wedding dresses (Ceremony & Reception), shoes, accessories, bridesmaid dresses/accessories (non matching), table decorations, invitations, favors, & so on.  I would like to keep the ceremony and reception simple and classy. I will not be having a dinner, DJ or band for the reception. At The reception we plan on serving hearty appetizers and cocktails. This will us the time to visit with all of the guests with out the interruption of an hour dinner and the overplayed wedding reception tunes. I prefer to spend the evening giving our friends and family more than a 30 second greeting in the reception line. Below are a few of the ideas I would like to create for our special day.

I am so excited that I will be traveling to Los Angeles tomorrow.  The city inspires me the most with fashion, my career in acting, and the very distant social life (Now that I am a new mom). I was talking the other day to one of my best friends about Los Angeles and how accepting it is with fashion.  Many find our fashion style in the midwest to be oh how do I say it Sloppy Chic. We would describe it by putting together an outfit by not matching the style of clothes you wear. For example we would sport a white tank top (wife beater), sweats, stilettos, pearls and last nights make up and get compliments all day long.  Or perhaps a fabulous dress with boots and a belt.  It looks as if we put no effort into getting ready for the day (which varied sometimes we did, & sometimes not) and looking fabulous. Granted many may disagree with us but we would still get complimented on our fashion sense.  On this trip to LA I will try to photograph as many people I feel that represent this style to prove my point.  To prove that you can be stylish with little or no effort. Sometimes its just the confidence we have within ourselves to pull the outfit off.

Coming this January I will be vacationing in my favorite city Los Angeles. I know the trip will inspire edgy ideas on my next few projects I have been wanting to do for sometime.  I plan on reinventing a pair of high heels and redesigning my past bridesmaid dresses on film, yes my first VLOG.  I love to recycle the old and recreate past/present couture designs with little or no budget ( I get this from my dad).    As for for the shoes I can't wait to play with the latest trends such as glitter on the bottom  and/or adding Swarovski Crystals on the heels. Here are a few of my inspirations on crystalizing the shoes that I have yet to find.  Please let me know if you are interested in doing this with me. I love spreading the creative bug and hope to have others be a part of the VLOG!
